A super PAC associated with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) released an ad touting him as a champion for the people ahead of his expected White House campaign debut.

In the new spot titled “A President for the People,” the Never Back Down PAC paints the United States in dire straits with record inflation, riots, and border mayhem while showing DeSantis as the man standing up to get the country back on track. DeSantis is rumored to announce his 2024 plans in a Twitter Spaces event Wednesday.

“America has fallen. Who will stand? From a family of steelworkers, Ron DeSantis served our nation,” a narrator said. “And stood for what was right.”

The ad spotlighted DeSantis’s culture war fights, highlighting his battles with “woke” schools and corporations. Culture war politics have been a hallmark of DeSantis’s governorship and helped catapult him to GOP stardom.

“When the world went mad, we stood at the citadel of freedom,” DeSantis said in a reelection victory speech shown in the video. “Freedom is here to stay. We chose facts over fear. We chose education over indoctrination. We weathered the storms. We fight the ‘woke’ in the schools. We fight the ‘woke’ in the corporations. We will never ever surrender to the ‘woke’ mob.”

Never Back Down was formed earlier this year and has been laying the groundwork for a DeSantis presidential run. The PAC touted a $30 million haul between March 9 and April 3.

DeSantis is widely reported to be planning to announce his 2024 plans during a 6 p.m. Eastern time Twitter Spaces interview with CEO Elon Musk and entrepreneur David Sacks. DeSantis is also expected to file his paperwork for a run later this week.

The Florida governor has been the assumed top rival to former President Donald Trump despite several polls showing the former president cruising to the GOP nomination.
