President Joe Biden will deliver his second State of the Union address this month as speculation over his rumored 2024 reelection continues to grow.
The State of the Union address will provide Biden to speak to what is expected to be a large audience, with his first State of the Union, held in March 2022, having an estimated 38.2 million viewers. The speech is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7, and will be aired on multiple television networks and online at about 9 p.m. EST.

Biden is expected to address multiple problems the United States is facing, such as economic progress following the COVID-19 recession and priorities for a divided Congress. This will be the first time Biden addresses a joint session of Congress with Republicans in control of one of the chambers. Although the 2022 midterm elections were a disappointment for the GOP, which was expecting a “red wave,” the party did win control of the House of Representatives.
In addressing his priorities with Congress, the speech is also expected to be the beginning of Biden’s reelection campaign. The president still has yet to make an announcement regarding the 2024 presidential elections but is expected to say whether he is going to run in the coming weeks.

Biden will be joined by Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also president of the Senate, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Other people invited to the State of the Union include all members of Congress, members of Biden’s Cabinet, the armed forces, and the Supreme Court, along with the president’s family members.
There will be one member of Biden’s Cabinet who will be selected as the “designated survivor,” who will take charge of the U.S. government in the event that Biden and his other successors are impaired and unable to serve as president. It is not yet known who will be the designated survivor for this State of the Union.
