ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith shared his political opinion of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) during a podcast episode this week.

Smith recorded his podcast, the Stephen A. Smith Show, ahead of the Florida governor’s campaign announcement and instead focused on the NAACP’s recent travel precaution to Florida that, in Smith’s opinion, makes DeSantis “looks like a d*** fool.” The sports commentator admitted he was not an “aficionado on this subject” of politics.

“And in the case of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, at this pace, he might go down as one of the stupidest people I’ve ever seen. And we know he’s not stupid. We know how smart he is,” Smith said.

The governor, according to Smith, has “alienated” people in Florida with his policies. Smith specifically pointed to women and the Latino community.

“Now, we get to this latest stuff, and this is where it hits home for me, ’cause I’m a black man, and we’re talking about the NAACP,” Smith went on. “Respectfully to the governor, Ron DeSantis, who obviously has offended Latinos, blacks, women — have you lost your mind, or do you just want to throw away the election? Is that what you’re trying to do?”

In 2022, his most recent election to governor, DeSantis won the vote of 53% of women and nearly 60% of Latinos. His Democratic opponent, Charlie Crist, swept away 86% of the black vote. Florida remains the state with the highest number of black-owned businesses, according to the Pew Research Center.
