Direct payments of up to $1,050 are set to be mailed out to California residents starting in just six days.

The Middle Class Tax Refund seeks to offset some of the costs of sky-high inflation for consumers by providing them with direct payments. All in all, roughly $9.5 billion will be shipped out to California residents starting Oct. 7, according to ABC 10 News. The first payments will be through direct deposit, while others will be shipped a debit card.

Most payments will be given out in October, while the last will be wrapped up by the end of January. Those eligible must have filed their 2020 tax return by Oct. 15, 2021, and cannot be a dependent.

Payments range depending on marital status and income. Married couples filing jointly could be paid anywhere from $400 to $1,050, while heads of household could receive anywhere from $200 to $700, depending on income and number of dependents.
