A super PAC that has closely aligned itself with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has begun preparations for the 2024 presidential race by adding Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) former campaign manager to its ranks, a report revealed Wednesday.

Although DeSantis has yet to make a formal announcement on a presidential bid, discussions surrounding his possible candidacy have been going on for months. A move to secure Jeff Roe, who ran Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign, for a seat on the super PAC, is another signal that an announcement could come this summer.

Roe has signed on to be an adviser to the super PAC Never Back Down, according to Politico. The super PAC also touts seasoned Republican strategist Chris Jankowski as its executive director, and Ken Cuccinelli, who served as a Homeland Security official to former President Donald Trump, as the super PAC’s chairman.

DeSantis is seemingly continuing to prepare himself for a bid for the White House, starting his own book tour. DeSantis is expected to travel to several states and cities in late March and April, including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, New Hampshire, and Washington D.C., to tout his new book, The Courage to Be Free. He has already visited Iowa, Illinois, and California.

DeSantis is considered the biggest threat to Trump for the Republican nomination, should the Florida governor announce his decision to run, but former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Vivek Ramaswamy are currently the only candidates besides Trump to announce a run to be the Republican nominee.

Despite not being an announced candidate, some prominent Republicans, including Rep. Chip Roy (TX), have endorsed DeSantis.
