Former Vice President Mike Pence denounced the attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) who was attacked at the couple’s San Francisco home on Friday.

Pence, who worked in the House of Representatives with Pelosi for 10 years, said the attack was an “outrage” and called for a full prosecution of the man responsible.

“This is an outrage and our hearts are with the entire Pelosi family. ⁦We pray Paul will make a full recovery,” Pence tweeted. “There can be no tolerance for violence against public officials or their families. This man should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The suspect, David Depape, 42, is believed to have infiltrated the home through a sliding glass door and wielded a hammer, according to multiple reports.

A motivation for the attack is still under investigation, but the intruder asked “Where is Nancy?” during the break-in and sought to restrain Paul Pelosi while “waiting for Nancy,” according to CNN. Paul Pelosi was transported to the hospital following the attack and underwent surgery to repair a skull fracture but is expected to make a full recovery. Nancy Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time of the attack.

“Mr. Pelosi was admitted to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands. His doctors expect a full recovery,” said Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi. “The Speaker and her family are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, constituents and people around the country.”
