It was Trump’s fourth appearance at a UFC pay-per-view event in 2023. He previously attended UFC 295 in New York last month, UFC 287 in Miami in April, and UFC 290 in Las Vegas in July.

Trump took in the UFC 296 action in support of Colby Covington, who was unsuccessful in his attempt to regain the welterweight title from Britain’s Leon Edwards. Covington has been an outspoken supporter of Trump.

During his talks with the media ahead of the fight, Covington wore a jacket that sported Trump’s mugshot. Covington showed the former president the jacket earlier this month while visiting Mar-a-Lago.

“I’m his biggest fan, and he’s my biggest role model. What better way for him to put the belt around me?” Covington told the Full-Send Podcast. “Who better than the most famous person on planet Earth, Donald Trump, to give me the belt?”

Edwards defeated Covington by a unanimous decision of 49-46, 49-46, 49-46. It was Covington’s first time back in the octagon since March 2022, when he defeated Jorge Masvidal.

Following the fight, Covington told the crowd why he supports Trump.

“He’s going to make America great again. We need these borders secure, we need inflation down, and we need America first again,” Covington said. “And Donald Trump is the only one who is going to do that.”

Ahead of the fight, Trump made a 2024 campaign stop in New Hampshire. He held a rally where he attacked President Joe Biden’s immigration policy.
