GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said former Fox News host Tucker Carlson would be a “good addition” to the 2024 presidential race. Ramaswamy, former President Donald Trump, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley are among the few declared candidates.

Ramaswamy said in an interview with Politico that he believes Carlson announcing a bid for the White House would be “good for the country.”

“I think he’d be a good addition to the race,” Ramaswamy said. “I think someone should only do this if they feel called to do it, but I think it’d be good for the country if he got in, to be honest with you.”

Ramaswamy announced his candidacy for president in February, seven days after Haley did. Trump announced in November. Speculation is building around Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie (R-NH), and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) — people anticipate possible bids from them.

The 37-year-old billionaire called Carlson one of the “smartest voices in the conservative movement,” applauding the former host’s ability to “defect from party orthodoxy when necessary.”

“There’s definitely a thought leadership vacuum in political media, across the political spectrum,” Ramaswamy told Politico. “And Tucker was one of the great political thinkers and commentators of our time.”

Fox News announced on Monday that Carlson and the network agreed to “part ways.” The last episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight, which began in 2016, aired on Friday. Carlson will not produce any more content for Fox News.

Brian Kilmeade, co-host of Fox & Friends, filled in for Carlson on Fox News Tonight during Carlson’s usual 8 p.m. prime-time slot. Kilmeade wished the best for Carlson in a brief introduction to the show.

“I wish Tucker the best,” Kilmeade said Monday night. “I’m great friends with Tucker and always will be.”

While it is unclear what Carlson will do next, a cryptic ad on his website pops up for all viewers regarding his next moves. Carlson himself has remained silent on the matter, but the ad prompted people to sign up to “become a tuckercarlson.com insider to find out what Tucker’s up to next.”

For Ramaswamy, Carlson moving into the 2024 presidential race would be a welcomed decision. He also commented on CNN’s decision to terminate Don Lemon.

“I think it’s a gutsy decision, that I applaud,” he said to Politico. “It’s another example of companies gaining a spine.”
