The Seattle Mariners waited 21 years to get back into the playoffs, and they wasted no time in making their mark.

The team jumped into an early 3-0 lead in the first inning against the Toronto Blue Jays before ace pitcher Luis Castillo carved up the fourth seed for 7.1 innings.

But it was a filthy 103 mph pitch from reliever Andres Munoz that had baseball analysts purring and went viral on Twitter.

Munoz retired Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the bottom of the eighth with a ground-out, but the prior pitch for a strike was more impressive and even earned a nod of approval from Guerrero.

The pitch was the fastest seen in the playoffs in five years.

Munoz came back out for the ninth inning, and he earned a five out save, giving the Mariners a 4-0 win and a 1-0 lead in the best of three MLB wild card series. Should they advance, they will face a familiar foe: AL West bedfellows and first seed the Houston Astros.
