The White House is discussing ways President Joe Biden can protect abortion access with business leaders, activists, and other outside advocacy groups, press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed Friday, days after a leaked opinion showed the Supreme Court may be getting ready to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Psaki fielded a number of questions on the topic during her Friday gaggle with reporters aboard Air Force One and claimed not to be “aware” of any “anger” directed at Biden for not doing more to ensure abortion rights remain intact.

“Our effort and our focus is on broadly engaging about the specifics on possible actions and preparing for the release of a final opinion when that is released early this summer,” she said in response to one such question. “We are in conversations with a wide range of people, including women’s groups, including pro-choice activists, including folks inside of D.C., outside of DC, including business leaders, philanthropy, members of Congress, state legislatures, governors, advocacy groups.”

BIDEN CONTEMPLATES LIFE, OR CHOICE, AFTER ROE

“Across the board, we’re using the convening power of the White House to talk to a broad range of groups,” Psaki continued before reiterating that “our preference would be for Congress to codify Roe and, of course, for the final opinion not to look like the leaked opinion.”

“We are also supportive of states'” work to protect women seeking abortions and the medical workers who provide them, she added in closing. “We’re going to work with a broad range of stakeholders as we prepare for a final opinion to be released in June.”

The White House Gender Policy Council is leading the administration’s work on the topic, but even close Biden allies remain in the dark on what specific paths the president might pursue.
