Former President Donald Trump campaigned in his home state of New York on Saturday.

Trump headlined the annual gala of the New York Young Republicans Club to outline what his campaign has to offer. During his comments, he referred to President Joe Biden, who beat him in 2020 as “Crooked Joe,” the same nickname Trump gave to his 2016 opponent, Hilary Clinton.

“This campaign is a righteous crusade to rescue our nation from very corrupt political class. They are corrupt, they’re incompetent, and they probably hate our country,” Trump said. “If you put me back in the White House, however, their reign will be over, and America will be a free nation. Once again, it will be a free nation.”

Trump pointed to his previous administration’s financial influence, claiming it created the “greatest economy in the history of the world” in contrast to the phasing out of Biden’s campaign phrase “Bidenomics.” During the Biden administration, the country has seen inflation at a 40-year high.

The former president also alluded to a decreased belief in the “American dream” concept. Trump pointed to polling demonstrating an influx of Black, Latino, and Asian voters registering for the Republican Party.

“The Republican Party is the American dream, not the Democrat Party,” Trump said.
